08 May Copying Is not a compliment…

Many people say that copying is a compliment. However as an artist it feels disrespectful and frustrating. As a creative being there is nothing worse than having that feeling that your work is being ‘copied’ or the shameful feeling of being accused that you have ‘copied’ someone else, when that wasn’t the case. It is true that it is difficult to create something truly unique in this world but the place from where it is born should always be your own. As Coco Chanel said, “you can steal my ideas, I will always have other ones,” and Nicola Tesla said “I do not regret that others have broken my ideas. I am sorry that they do not have theirs.” As an artist this is something that you cannot avoid and must take in your stride, holding your head up high and knowing the you created your own style and technique. Thats all that matters.
